How Do We Better Ourselves?

??????????????????Change the world by renewing the mind. Renew the mind by changing your heart and start loving pure desires (Christine Caine).

Your soul is your mind which controls the brain. Our brain follows our soul/mind which follows our heart. No wonder why God tells us to protect our heart. Our heart runs our life (Dr. Caroline Leaf).
If you aren’t building good and pure thoughts, you can’t live purely and faithfully. We need to renew our minds. Renewing our minds is changing our thoughts.
Choosing to do right will literally kill the sin in your mind. Choosing to do good will literally renew your mind. It doesn’t happen instantly. It happens over time through obedience and discipline. Learn to denature your bad thoughts. Dedicate seven minutes a day of positive thinking; it will help denature bad thoughts.
In order to live purely and faithfully, you need progression. Faithfulness is progression.
There is pain in recovery and the pain is normally worse than the original pain (Christine Caine).
Love with all your heart, soul, and mind. That is your spiritual core. Strengthening your core is vital. If you don’t guard your heart, out flows every issue of life. Why do you think God emphasizes love!? In order to guard your heart, you must know the Bible. Without knowing the Bible, you are completely vulnerable to Satan; but with the Bible, you have a weapon against him. That is the importance of the Bible. Knowing God and resisting temptation from the devil.
Tim Keller reiterates the power of sin has over us. Sin holds you back from being who you are and who you were meant to be. Change your mindset and be who you really are. You have to be killing your sin or it will be killing you; that’s what Keller says.
Selfishness is a prime example to our sinful nature. Selflessness is pure and lovely. Change your thoughts to selfless thoughts and out comes love instead of greed and hatred.
Now during this healing process, it will be very difficult and painful. It is very important not to compare yourself to others during this period. As Robert Madu says, “Comparison is the thief of joy, the cancer of enjoyment.” Comparison is very bad because God has a different purpose for each and every one of us. If we compare ourselves to someone else, it clouds the path for our own life. Robert Madu compared this to a race and sometimes we focus on the people in the other lanes when in reality, we perform best when focused on our own lane. Looking at other people in their lanes can intimidate and ruin our own race.
Majority of the time we do not care what we do because we do not think anyone is watching or will ever notice, but your thoughts are always public to the only one that matters! Matt Chandler says that it is impossible to out-sin the cross. He couldn’t be more accurate. There is not a single human being who wasn’t saved by Jesus dying on the cross. Jesus already died for your past, present, and future sins knowing that you would fail him. His grace paid for that already! Don’t let someone tell you that you aren’t good enough to know Jesus because being not good enough is the whole purpose of Jesus. He came because we suck. Your worth is not in doing; it is strictly in being. Your presence is what matters to your Creator. He loves you. Let him love you. Change your mind and accept Him. Once you do, your life becomes His completely. Your life is no longer your story, It is His. His story goes on and you could die. Matt Chandler also says that if you aren’t sharing His story that you are not happy in the Lord because we share what we are happy about. Be happy in the Lord and change your selfish sinful nature.

The best way to change your mind is to build a positive and healthy habit. If you are addicted to porn, build a healthy habit of reading a book like the Bible instead or watching a podcast. The Bible will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from the Bible. Exchange the bad addiction to a good, thought provoking habit. In the beginning, this will be incredibly hard, but the more it is done the easier it becomes. Charles Duhigg states, “The beginning stage of making a habit requires a lot of thinking; the more you do the task of which you are making habit, the less you think.” Create a positive habit in order to break an addiction. It is possible. Dr. Caroline Leaf, who studies the brain rigorously, says it only takes 30 days to break an addiction. So if you think it is impossible to stop looking at porn or smoking a cigarette or what ever your addiction is, it is not impossible. You need to create a habit to do when tempted.

If you are trying to be a leader, change must become your best friend. Leaders understand the power in change. Change is a necessity. I was at a leadership conference and Andy Stanley was speaking and spoke strictly on the inexorable correlation between change and leadership. He said, “Great leaders fix things that are broken. Great leaders don’t blame.” So often we don’t want to change ourselves even when we know we need to and we shift the blame and compare ourselves to others and say, oh, but she/he does this so much worse than I do. We allow our minds to think that this is alright because we are better at one thing than someone else is. But in reality, according to Andy Stanley, blame is an effective change-avoidance strategy. He is completely right. When we try to change our minds, we can’t allow ourselves to shift the blame and compare ourselves. Vulnerability is leading.
We feel the need to change when our heart is broken. God breaks our heart for specific reasons. Most of the time we can’t see the reason why God breaks our heart. Whenever your heart is broken, it is because God is calling you to see and do something for his purpose. How cool is that? He includes us in His divine plan… Something that he created just as dust is a part of his plan. We are significant to Him.

Change your mind because it creates a leader out of you and it is improvement and progression. This is what God wants from us. He wants us to progress towards him and be faithful servants. Don’t you want to hear God say, “Well done my good and faithful servant?” Come on, that is going to be the best thing in the world. The creator of the universe, the creator of you and me will congratulate us for our faithful servanthood. If that isn’t something worth living for then I don’t know what is! God loves you so much and paid the price for your sin. Stop letting it hold you back from being who He wants you to be! He gave you everything you need to do what He wants you to do…nothing more, nothing less! Change your thoughts… Change your mind… Progress… Be Faithful… And most importantly, Love.
