So many times in today’s world, we are trying to fix more and more problems. We are seeking solutions to fix these problems. Action is required in order to fix a problem. Where is the real route to these problems?
In the story of the Tower of Babel which is about 100 years after the Flood with Noah, Genesis 11:4 says, “Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”
The people of the Earth here took matters into their own hands and decided to do something that God did not instruct them to do. They created a problem out of fear. The fear is unclear, but there are some commentaries that propose it was to possibly prevent another flood. But I believe they were afraid that they would be scattered all throughout the world. Either way, it is clear that this was based off of fear and they just created the problem by themselves and took action.
Taking action without God’s consent is problematic as it creates a delusion of Self-Deceit. I don’t think these people knew what they were doing was wrong. They made themselves belief that this was alright. They wanted to make a name for themselves that exalted themselves as to prove themselves worthy. They wanted to make themselves great by the works of building an incredible city. We Do Not make ourselves worthy. God made us worthy simply by creating us and wanting to dwell with us.
When we create this illusion that we need to deem ourselves worthy, we deceive ourselves and create a false perception of Truth. We are tricked into self-deceit without even knowing it.
It says in verses 7-9 that the Lord came down and confused their language that created diversity and confusion and spread them throughout the whole earth.
What we compromise to keep, we ultimately lose. These people tried so hard to maintain their unity and to remain together by building this city. The Lord came down and did exactly what the people were trying to avoid. He seperated them and also confused them with different languages and multiple meanings of words.
What are you doing in your life that you are trying to take on by yourself? What are you trying to take control of? What is the cause behind your action… Is it fear?
Too many times are actions are based on fear that God can’t provide for us. He is in control of His creation. We learn from the David in Psalm 16 that he will take care of His people. He is not going to leave us abandoned in death. He will show you the path to life. Stop fearing and let go and let God continue His work. Allow Him to work through you. Stop taking matters into your own hands because we all know that leads to us losing exactly what we want to keep. Let God take control and He will show you the right way! Walk out of the darkness and into the Light and rely on His faithfulness and goodness!
